Frankie Taylor was one of many that were disappointed when the rain came on Saturday at the ADRL Hardee’s Independence Drags IV at Heartland Park Topeka. The “Mad Man” qualified second to Joshua Hernandez in Pro Extreme and seemed to have built momentum for a long run through eliminations. He saw the opportunity to seize control of the weekend after making multiple passes in the 3.7-second range in qualifying, but was left with only a disenchanted sigh as the event was postponed due to steady rain early Saturday evening.“Man, I wish we could have gotten this in,” Taylor said on Saturday. The good news is Taylor won’t have far to go for the next race. The Texas native will race at his home track, Houston Raceway Park (HRP) in Baytown, as part of the ADRL Inaugural Texas Drags on July 23-24. The new event will feature the conclusion of the ADRL Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Dragapoolza VI presented by Safety-Kleen as well, giving Taylor a strong opportunity to win two races at his home track. That, obviously, would be the dream scenario for the weekend.“It would be awesome, for sure,” Taylor said. “It’s going to be good. We’re looking forward to having a lot of fun there.”Taylor may have a distinct advantage having raced multiple times at HRP in the scorching heat and humidity. He hopes his long history at the track will pay off throughout the weekend. “We’ve won a bunch down there,” Taylor said. Taylor and his team also appears on top of their game, putting together consistent runs in Topeka. They were the top qualifer after Friday in a loaded class, with Taylor noting his car has room for improvement.“You’ve gotta run the track in Houston. We race quite a bit down there, so hopefully that helps,” Taylor said.
