It has been a stop-start-stop journey, but with any luck, a recent flurry of chatter in the movie insider scene will turn out to be true. Several tinsel-town sources are reporting that director George Miller is now proceeding with development of two new Mad Max movies.
Rather than sequels to the previous episodes, the new movies are being shot as updates. Reportedly, the filming for both is being done simlutaneously, so as to enable a rapid release schedule. In the eight-month old clip below, Miller denies any casting decisions, however, the current babble mentions stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicolas Hoult as certainties.
Mad Max: Fury Road is reported to be the title of the first release, about which Hardy spoke breifly at a recent press event. "It’s a relaunch and revisit to the world. An entire restructuring. That's not to say that it's not picking up or leaving off from the Mad Max you know already, but it's a nice re-take on the entire world using the same character, depositing him in the same world but bringing him up to date by 30 years."
Further reports, quoting Hardy, indicate that the production schedule is not yet cast in stone, but could yet involve some eighteen months into the future.
The follow-up episode is entitled
Max Max: Furiosa, which some interpret to suggest a stronger part for Charlize Theron. Could she take over a role as strong as Tina Turner's in the past? You bet!
