Last year Kevin Parent came off a strong year in Nostalgia Pro Street, though behind the scenes things weren't going as well. Kevin was running on borrowed time with tired parts and he was just exhausted himself. In the off season Kevin had posted everything for sale and it was a bit of a shock with how well he did in 2009, though the given circumstances were understandable. When Dart Heads saw the car for sale, they immediately contacted Kevin.
Behind the scenes, during the off season Dart was working closely with Kevin to get him back on track. The tired Big M block was swapped out for a lighter aluminum 10.200" deck height big block Chevy. With their previous motor pushing the maximum size allowed in NPS, the team decided to go with a slightly smaller 520ci, 4.600 bore combination.
The heads remained the 11 degree Big Chief IIs though were completely freshened and the intake was replaced with Dart's new Box Ram intake with CNC billet top cover. Hutch would help out with testing various transmission and torque converter combinations to find one that fit their needs. Also in the end they were able to get some weight out of the heavy Nova.
This last weekend's race in Maple Grove was the first time the Nova had seen competition in the NMCA this year. By the end of qualifying Parent had managed a respectable second spot on the qualifying sheet with a 7.437 @ 173.14 mph, though it looked like it was going to be hard to catch number one qualifier David Beeson's 7.288 @ 190.70 mph pass. In the finals, it would be the Beeson and Parent. Beeson would have problems on the line which allowed Parent to pick up the 7.505 @ 164.01 mph win. Sweet success for such a fresh combination.
