Our most recent YouTube discovery brought us to a very unique show car that was seven years in the making. After two years of design, Rod Saboury spent five years assembling his 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray. Labelled with a personal license plate, ‘InThe6s,’ Rod’s Vette has officially been dubbed the World’s fastest street legal car after an impressive 6.95-second pass at 210mph during Norwalk, Ohio’s Super Chevy Magazine show in 2009.
We found the interview of Rob Saboury and his ’63 Vette on the Baltimore Sun’s YouTube page.....
Saboury’s vision was a street legal show piece capable of being the World’s fastest ‘Grocery Getter.’ His vision came to life with the help of his good friend, Mike Moran. Moran is known throughout the drag racing industry as one of the best performance turbo-engine builders around.Moran made Rod’s world record possible with a streetable, twin turbo 2,400 horsepower Bow Tie engine. Although Saboury’s small block Chevy runs on everyday pump gas, you won’t see this retro rod parked at the pump as often as you’d think! With a ten gallon fuel cell and an amazing 10mpg, Rod can take his ride about 100 miles before making a pit stop.
Rod Saboury stressed that his vehicle is completely street legal from the drag radial street legal rubbers, turn signals, and backup lights all the way to his interior lights, cup holders, and power windows! With a 0-60 time of just one second, there’s no doubt that his rear view mirror usually states true when it says, ‘Objects in mirror are losing.’
