looking for some work situation/employment help
ok i'm in a weird situation at my work. I drive cars and work on them for a living. So my employer has me insured under the business insurance. Well they switched to a cheap company and because of my past driving record i am being dropped. I was insured under the old insurance just fine. I did have a shitty record when i was younger and i did get a careless driving ticket and thta is the reason I am being basically let go from my job. That ticket has been off my record for almost 2 years now and been off my personal insurance for one year. I currently have 6 points but 4 of them are lights violations in roseville which are points. But that isn't there reason for me being dropped. I have been at my job for almost 2 years and as my boss puts it "I'm a great employee". I was told about a week and a half ago i might be dropped but they were looking into it. Then all laast week nothing was said to me about it, not a single word. Now today at the last 30 mins of my shift i get told as of friday i'm offically dropped off the insurance. So if i'm not insured I can't drive the cars. If i can't drive the cars I can't do my job. SO they basically beat around the bush and said as of friday i'm done working there. SO my question is do I have an recorse I can take against them? What should I do or what can I do. SHould I talk to lawyer? And don't they have to give me a certain amount of notice before terminating my postion? Also could I collect unemployment off this? Any help is greatly need and apresiated.
Thanks
Greg

Sorry to say, there is no recourse. Michigan is a Right to Work State, which really means that if you have no emploment contract, your employer can terminate you at any time without cause. No notice is required, just as you are not required to give notice when you quit. Your only recourse is if you can prove discrimination, so unless someone else has a worse record than yours and is still working, youre sol. Sounds like it was strictly a $$$$ decision. Yes, you should be able to collect Un employment. The website is online now, dont know the address of hand.

Ya, only things you can do are ask your boss if there's another position you can apply for or to give you a great reference letter.
In fact, what I've done in the past is write the damn referal letter myself and by last boss was more than happy to sign it. And let me tell you, I was one hell of an employee.

Job
Sorry to hear about your job-that sucks. Dealing with the unemployment process is a pain in the ass though. (Unfortunately I speak from experience)

Ask your boss to put you in the parts department until your record clears up

mario i may have a job for you if they do let me go. As of right now my uncle who run's the body shop, my service manager, shop foreman, and a few ranking terchs are fighting for me to keep my job. SO everyone cross there fingers and hope they find away for me to stay. And Mike there trying to find me a spot somewhere else in the dealership but there's not alot of room for me to go anywhere else. And my mom said she'd pay a month or 2 of my truck payments if i get behind looking for a job so bubba your ass ain't repo'in my truck yet. I would total first anyway since i have gap insurance and total= out of the truck scot free

That stinks...driving jobs are fun. I used to deliver auto parts back in the day. Well, that was until 6 months later they finally checked my driving record.
