Exclamation Automatic transmission needed ASAP!!!

My next door neighbor's transmission in his wife's 1997 F-250 went out the out day and he's very straped for cash and needs a reliable replacement, and cheap. Can anyone help me? If I am not mistaken the trans needed is a E4OD...right? Some of you would probably know better than me.

Can anyone help?!?

Thanks.

Have him pickup a copy of the Tradin Times paper, there are usually deals in there.

www.car-part.com looks up local and nationwide salvage yards.. however i worked at a trans shop back in the day and a vast majority of used transmissions never worked right or didn't hold up long if they did work.

Yes it should be a E4OD, finding a good used unit may be tough. The place to check for a rebuild is Roseville transmission. I had a trans rebuilt there a your ago and they were far cheaper than anywhere else I found .

His wife told me that the when the tow truck driver came to pick up the truck to bring it to their house he noticed that there wasn't a drop of trans fluid in the trans. They park their trucks in their driveway and there is no trans fluid in the driveway anywhere and the truck had a trans fluid change a month or two earlier. WTF?!?!?

What do you think a rebuild from Roseville Transmission would cost?

Have they just tried throwing some tranny fliud in it first? Might be worth a shot. I've got a C4, but I don't think it would bolt up The computer definitely wouldn't be happy.

Is it 2 or 4wd??

Heres a break down of a typical rebuild:

R&R trans ($350 2wd, $450 4wd)
Overhaul kit ($200-350)
Bench labor ($300-$500)
Torque converter ($150-$250)
Fluid ($25-$40)

This is just an example. If it has hard part failure the price goes up from there.

4 cam tbird. I doubt trowing some tranny fluid would help. Plus, they are in the process of seeing what the "quick lube" place will do about the truck...if they do anything. They had a problem once before with another tranny place who put the wrong pan back on after a repair and they (tranny place) ended up having to front the bill for a new trans.

If they need a rebuild... I have a shop that will give them a hell of a break... Only thing that sucks though... That trans takes around 20 quarts of fluid...

Good luck with the quick lube place admitting fault. Most people I know end up taking them to court and never seeing the full amount.

I just need a ballpark estimate. My neighbor doesn't have the time or patience to be pulling trans and driving it around for everyone to see. He just needs it fixed right, fast, and cheap.

That's what I told them.
