Default Why I don't do home projects

(rant/on)

We returned our fireplace back to natural....didn't like the gas.
The previous homeowners did the conversion (very badly I might add) and threw out the steel screen that protects your home from the any floating ambers that could get out.

So, Mr. Handyman (me) is going to install a new screen. 26". Check. Ask where the rods are....Evergreen says they don't sell those and no one does. WTF? Ok, then what. Go buy a 1/4 rod at the hardware store. Check.

So, drill into the side of the fireplace (has some custom metal thing with vents on the side and fans to blow out hot air if you wish) and install the rod. 1/4 is too light and it hangs. Go back to Home Depot, get a 1/2 inch. Works better, but not perfect. Make a bracket to hold the rod in the center. Good. The curtain doesn't close completely. Fuck. Now it's 10PM. I give up.

Get to work today, do a google search, they sell a replacement rod kit. 2 rods, bracket, and the rods extend past each other (one behind the other) so that you will have a completely closed curtain for your fire. $23.95.

So, I spent 3.5 hours trying to rig that shit up when they sold a kit for $24 the whole time that will take 20-minutes to install.

I will never go to Evergreens again because they don't know shit.

NOOOOOOO. Simple stuff really. Just it always turns into such a project.
From now on.....I'm just hiring someone to do everything for me.

And you'll need a second job just to pay for all the handy-men. I can see it know "Welcome to McDonalds my name is Chuck can I take your order"

we completely remodeled the spare bedroom the last few months.. removed wallpaper, patched walls, painted; walls, ceiling, closet. took up carpet and redid the hardwood floors, new ceiling light, never switch and plugs, new window, floor, ceiling trim, and also stipped, sanded, and stained the closet doors... then today my dad filled the attic with the cellophane paper crap. and we still have lots more stuff coming. its a constant angerfest.
