We returned our fireplace back to natural....didn't like the gas.
The previous homeowners did the conversion (very badly I might add) and threw out the steel screen that protects your home from the any floating ambers that could get out.
So, Mr. Handyman (me) is going to install a new screen. 26". Check. Ask where the rods are....Evergreen says they don't sell those and no one does. WTF? Ok, then what. Go buy a 1/4 rod at the hardware store. Check.
So, drill into the side of the fireplace (has some custom metal thing with vents on the side and fans to blow out hot air if you wish) and install the rod. 1/4 is too light and it hangs. Go back to Home Depot, get a 1/2 inch. Works better, but not perfect. Make a bracket to hold the rod in the center. Good. The curtain doesn't close completely. Fuck. Now it's 10PM. I give up.
Get to work today, do a google search, they sell a replacement rod kit. 2 rods, bracket, and the rods extend past each other (one behind the other) so that you will have a completely closed curtain for your fire. $23.95.
So, I spent 3.5 hours trying to rig that shit up when they sold a kit for $24 the whole time that will take 20-minutes to install.
I will never go to Evergreens again because they don't know shit.
