Ok so I have no car to put one in yet. I was gonna build up a rat rod for next summer. But over the winter I was going to build up an engine. Basic goals/requirments are pump gas, 500+ hp with equal or more torque, and carb'd. Driveability is not an issue, hell I wont even have power steering. I havn't figured out if I want an auto or manual, but if I go auto ill be going with a convertor very well into the powerband of the engine. I'm going for the shitty lookn car, to much power for the tires, loud as hell, piss off your neighbors kinda thing that when you mat it you are scared for your life
I had/have a 4 bolt, 400 SBC lined up that is bored .030 over and decked, painted and screened valley. All lil stuff done to the block like sanding down all the rough edges and such. Only problem is he wants $1G for it. I was gonna go get it this weekend but backed out and am having second thoughts of paying that much. But at the same time he is the one "coaching" me on what parts to use, and is givin me hardened pushrods, cam, and rockers for $300 all brand new as well as a free engine stand.
I'd rather stay with a ford or chevy, don't kno much about mopar. And I'd rather keep it to a small block. I was lookn at ford flathead V8's and couldn't gather much info. That would be a sweet engine on a rat rod, but I have a feeling you cannot get much power out of them, and parts are hard to find.
What opinions do you all have? is that to much for a bare block? Should I go with something else? thanks in advance, Nick
