Default torque converters

It's newbie questions time again...

Say you have a 2000 rpm converter and switch it to 2500.. the gears are set up such that most of the time on normal highway driving the rpms are between 2000 and 2500.. would this new converter basically be like driving with a slipping clutch the whole time? Or would it only be noticable when it's accelerating through the lower gears?

No all newer cars have a lock up converter. The converter becomes 1:1 at highway speeds and the lockup can be programmed in your PCM if you change things.

BTW there's a supercharger for 05 stangs on the board at MM. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

when you take off at a low rpm it will act like normal too mostly.

only when you stomp on it or flash it.

i wouldn't go only 500 up.....3000 is the lowest stall speed i would get.

I agree it's not gonna be enough-especially if you get a blower.

You guys gotta remember this is his daily driver. You're right about the stall speed if he was looking for all out performance, but to keep it reliable and able to drive a million miles a year he should keep it at 2800-3200 max.

Yeah, I was pondering one from TCI that's 3000... Lidio seems to like the ones from PI, but they cost $200 more.. so I dunno yet..

Is TCI a reliable brand usually?

Oh and yeah, I hope to have a blower some year, so definitely trying not to buy stuff I'd just have to or want to replace cause of the blower..

Yeah I wouldn't go with a 4000 stall or anything like that. A 3,000 stall should work fine.

i had a tci 2200 in my old aod car, it was fine but the 2200 was just like stock. i hardly noticed a diff, and wished i had of gone 3000 stallion, from pi

but all in all tci is pretty good.

Also had a TCI when I first had the windsor together. Didn't get the right stall and the car was a pig outta the hole. The right converter makes all the difference!
