New is the operative word surrounding Goforth Racing as it heads into the 2011 season.Dean and Cary are returning as drivers, and standout ones at that, in the American Drag Racing League’s (ADRL) Extreme Pro Stock class for the 2011 ADRL Tour, but nearly everything else about the team appears to be new.It may seem a bit daunting, but the Goforths seem to be embracing the challenge.“We are looking forward to building a team for the upcoming season that will start out as a team that shares the racing philosophy of the drivers,” Cary Goforth said.First on the list during the Goforth off-season was obtaining a new crew chief.Former crew chief Chris Bell accepted a new position as the ADRL’s Director of Technical Services. The Goforth team sent their best regards to Bell over the decision. “We thank Chris for the past seasons under his direction, we found a lot of success, winning several races and a (Mountain Motor Pro Stock Association) MMPSA Championship,” Cary said. “We want to take this opportunity to thank Chris, Rod and Kevin Pickett, and Grant Wick for a year of winning races. “But, at the same time, I am kind of excited about the new possibilities and we’re looking forward to what the future holds.” Replacing Bell will be a familiar face, crew member Brian Self. Goforth said the two-car team is also looking to rebuild the team with several new crew members, but Self has a proven track record with the team.“We have great confidence in his abilities,” Cary said. Sticking with the new theme, both Cary and Dean will debut new GXP cars built by Jerry Haas for the 2011 season. That move may seem a bit surprising for Cary after he won three ADRL races in 2010 in his old car, ending the regular season as the points leader, but he remains excited about driving a new car he thinks will have even more potential. That should say something considering Cary holds both the world E.T. (4.048) and speed records (179.04 miles per hour) in XPS.“With the new cars, engines from Sonny Leonard and the new crew chief, we have high expectations for our season,” Cary said. “We are actively searching for crew members that share the commitment and dedication of the team owner. Most importantly, though, despite all the new, Goforth has the same big goals for 2011. He’s also has high expectations for his father’s car after a 2010 filled with adversity.“We expect to pick up where we left off, and continue towards a championship in 2011.” Cary said. Goforth Racing is sponsored by the following: LAT Oil, XS Power Batteries, Sonny’s Racing Engines, Access Employer Services, Mickey Thompson Tires and Dean’s Casing Service. “Without the support of these sponsors none of this would be possible,” Cary said.(Photos by ADRL/Richards)
