There are kids out there who think that hot rodding was born on the streets of Southern California, hewn from rumrunners and stock car drivers. Unfortunately, hot rodding in the way of performance was not birthed through metal flake paint and dog dish hubcaps. Nope.
Real hot rodding came out of limitless miles of sun-baked, cracked and blistered lakebeds like
El Mirage. Hot rodders took the fight from the streets to the lakebeds for the pursuit of all out top speed. We found this pic and wanted to remind you where it all began:
