BAYTOWN TX, (July 16, 2010) - The American Drag Racing League (ADRL) has been to Houston Raceway Park every year since 2006.On July 23-24, however, the ADRL will make its second trip to the track in Baytown, TX in 2010 for the Inaugural Texas Drags, marking the first time it has been to HRP two times in one year. After rain forced the postponement of the ADRL Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen in March, the ADRL responded by creating another race at HRP.Dragpalooza VI will be completed on Friday, with the Inaugural Texas Drags slated to be completed the next day, making it a double-race weekend. That will make it a heated two-day stretch, featuring two races with the world’s fastest 1/8th mile doorslammers. The Texas Drags are the sixth of 10 national events this season, though only three ADRL events have been completed this year due to weather. By the end of the weekend at HRP, five races will have been completed in front of an always energetic crowd that will surely pack the grandstands like it has done in previous years. The final qualifying session was completed in four of the five classes at Dragpalooza in March, meaning only Pro Extreme will have one last qualifying session on Friday. From there, final eliminations will follow, giving fans non-stop action throughout the weekend. In 2009, winners at Dragpalooza V included Todd Tutterow in Pro Extreme, Stan Allen in Pro Nitrous, Billy Glidden in Extreme 10.5, Charlie Prophit in Pro Extreme Motorcycle and Doug Kirk in Extreme Pro Stock. This year, the ADRL is expecting even more excitement in each of the five (Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme Pro Stock, Extreme 10.5, Pro Nitrous and Pro Extreme) professional eighth-mile drag racing classes plus the Pro-Junior dragsters. The spectator gates open at 9 a.m. Friday, with racing set to begin at 11 a.m. Friday will feature the conclusion of the ADRL UTI Dragpalooza VI presented by Safety-Kleen, with a special jet-car and monster truck pass concluding the evening session.
