10/14: 5th Annual Toys for Tots Benefit Drag Race
The Mid-Michigan Motorplex Hosts the 5th Annual Toys for Tots Benefit Drag Race
Stanton, MI - Affordable head to head drag racing, "instant green" starts, and good times are on tap for Saturday, October 14 at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex. Proceeds from this exciting and fun day of racing will go directly to jump-start the 2006 Montcalm County Toys for Tots fund raising season. The charity will also have local volunteers on hand to accept toy and cash donations for their worthwhile cause. U.S. Marines will be present to raise the Stars and Stripes.
"The car count for this event has doubled since its’ inception" says event coordinator Doug Dornbos from RunWhatYouBrung.com, "but more importantly, we've been able to quadruple our donation to Toys for Tots".
Cars, motorcycles, and snowmobiles are all welcome to compete. If a racer loses a round, they are not eliminated. Every racer is eligible to compete in three rounds winning 3, 2, 1 or 0 out of three for the day. Each competitor races only the racers nearest themselves in the qualifying ladder regardless of vehicle type and all racing is done "heads up" with an "instant green" (no amber lights) Christmas tree, closely mirroring a true street race. This relieves racers of the worries of a red light and puts everyone on a level playing field.
Time trials start at 11 a.m., racing starts at 2 p.m. and is projected to finish by 5 p.m. Adult admission is $12, children 11 and under get in for free, crew members get in for half price. Racer's fees are $39. Students get a 25% discount on all entry fees with school I.D. All racers receive a t-shirt for entering the race. Clubs are encouraged to make this event an official club outing.
Awards will be given for quickest overall elapsed time (3 places), quickest doorslammer, quickest diesel, quickest motorcycle, quickest snowmobile, quickest high school student, quickest front wheel drive, quickest inline motor (not including bikes & snowmobiles), quickest orphan powered (Stude, AMC, Packard, etc.) and the People's Choice Show (3 places.)
