Default What kind of gun do you use/prefer..

Looking for input on the brands of guns available. What do you use and what do you like about it?

How much money you looking to spend? Ive got 2 devilbiss finishlines 1 for primer one for everything else. Ive had one about 7 years and going on 5 with the other. Terriffic guns especially for the price. (around $120 a peice) I would like to step into something a little nice but dont have the money right now and what I have works great so far. Alot of people think you need a $1000 gun but I think its much more 90% user.

I sprayed my car with a harbor freight gun. Lol. But I'm looking to get someting nicer now that I plan on painting more. I had borrowed a Sata gun but for some reason it seemed my compressor couldn't keep up with it.

I would look into devilbiss guns, They are priced right, spray great, And I have only rebuilt each of mine once in 5 and 7 years of owning them. As far as laying the paint out, I have no complaint at all.

I would suggest a look at the HVLP (High Volume - Low Pressure ) guns or complete systems with a turbine.

This i can tell you this i am a sprayer at Ford motor company,We shoot all the door jambs manually before the robot cell shoots the rest of the truck.Your air compressor plays a bigger roll in your finish than your gun does!!!!If you look at your at your compressor and it doesn't push at least 14cfm at 90psi your under powered.Air settings cause orange peel not your gun,the gun quality will only affect atomization.Your atomization is of course how fine a mist that comes out of the gun the finer the mist the more money you spend. You are going to want to spend at least 125.00 but no more than 225.00 cuz your a beginner i assume cuz you are asking questions on here.I spray a Sharpe Pro Platinum H.O and its more gun than i will ever need i shouldn't have bought it but i was miss led into thinking i needed it, it cost me 450.00 Go to Fergans Car Quest at at 9mile and Gratiot they sell all guns they will lead you in the right direction. To me the most important factor when buying a gun is do they have replacement readily available.

Wow, holy old post. I ended up getting a finishline 3 and i really liked it. I recently upgraded to a PLUS for clear only and I'm very happy with how it lays it out. I have a Quincy325 compressor, no worries on air consumption!

Here is some work with the finishline. I love the gun for basecoats. But clears I just had to move way slow to get it to lay flat. This is after polishing.

This is the clear out of the PLUS gun. I'm very happy with it.

I would just like to add that spraying OEM basecoat/clearcoat and spraying refinish basecoat/clearcoat are two waaaaayyyy different animals
