It’s been a long, cold winter for many around the nation. For Pete Berner and his northern-Illinois based Extreme Pro Stock team, it’s been no different. After record snowfall and freezing temperatures, Berner is ready to head south. The team will be testing the week of March 7th to ready themselves for the 2011 American Drag Racing League (ADRL) season, which kicks off with CarSafe Dragpalooza VII presented by LenMar Motorsports at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, on March 25-26. As always, Jerry Janota and Mike Slaviero have been working tirelessly in Berner’s engine shop, searching for the next competition edge. With record-breaking performances in 2010 and more power under the hood for 2011, Berner is excited to get his Summit Racing Equipment GXP to the track.“We’re going to pick up right where we left off,” Berner said. “We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel this season. We’ve done enough of that. The last few seasons we’ve been working so hard on our innovations that we basically started out with a brand new program each year. “Then we spent the season trying to get it right. We’re happy with where we ended the 2010 season, so this year we’re building upon those successes. We’ll be using the same power, just better. “We’re going to test for a week, wear some parts out and evaluate where we are and where we need to be. We want to be ready for whatever the competition throws at us in Houston.”Berner is looking for his first ADRL win and first ADRL Championship in 2011. Although he’s proven multiple times that he and his team have exactly what it takes, the cards haven’t fallen into place. After advancing to the championship round at the World Finals at Texas Motorplex in October, Berner is convinced that 2011 will be the year they do.“We’re really rolling now with our engine program and solidifying things as a team,” Berner said. “I have high expectations for 2011, not the least of which include one or two Minutemen.”
