While we're a little disappointed at the decision to change car makes, we were excited to hear when ESPN announced the addition of SuperRally to the list of events at this upcoming X Games.
Sam Hübinette, who has made a huge dent in the world of competitive drifting behind the wheels of a Mopar-tuned Challenger and most notably, a Viper, will now be one of the X Games SuperRally entrants piloting a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution built by Sam Hübinette Racing stablemate Andrew Comrie-Picard, a four-year X Games veteran.
After a few years as a driving instructor for Skip Barber as well as forming his own racing school, Hübinette landed a job drifting a Dodge Viper for Mopar in the FD Series, going on to win the inaugural FD competition at Road Atlanta, and dominating three out of four events that season, including the inaugural FD championship. We think the switch to the Evolution is solely for the X Games, and will be back behind the controls of his 410ci aluminum Mopar A8 block-powered Challenger shortly. The SuperRally will be on Saturday of the four-night event, July 29 through August 1 at the LA Coliseum.
