I will not comment too much on this thread because I don't want to get into a pissing match with any of you guys. I know what is goingf on in these plants. I have been a UAW worker for over 20yrs. I know that we get no respect from most people. At this point I really don't what you guys think. I know it all is untrue anyway.
I will leave this as my last comment. I am a skilled tradesmen. I do jobs that most of you probably would not do. Would you go 50ft in the air and work on overcranes? Would you go out in 15 degree weather and hang steel or fix something that is broken on your building? Would go inside a stamping press and do maintainence work? How about working in a dirty tunnel or press pit? Yes, there are times that we get to have an extended break. But most of the time we are busting our azzes doing the things that most will not do.
Yeah, you ruffled my feathers. This is why I won't be answering this thread anymore. I started this thread as a positive thing to show how these companies help the communities. Instead there are some that wish to try to bring out the bad. That is what is wrong this country. We are so busy looking at the bad that we can't see the good. Think about these so-called lazy workers if you ever need blood (we have blood drives almost monthly). Think about these so-called lazy workers next time your kids need school supplies (we have donation drives for education). Think about these so-called lazy workers when you see people that are less fortunate (we have clothing and toy drives for these people). These are just a few of the things that we, the lazy people do to help our communities.

I agree with most the buy American things you say. But everytime some even questions the union you get totally bent out of shape over it. You're playing right into their stereotype. I agree there's no changing some peoples minds. I don't think ALL union wprkers are lazy. But when I asked my friends dad (Ford worker) abut getting a job and said I'd start at the botom sweepingfloors you know what he said-"you can;t do that-those are the good jobs". What's wrong with that picture?!!! I'm sure you're a hard worker but I've had ACTUAL UNION WORKERS talk about screwing off and drinking on the job and they laugh about it! Should these people have jobs-NO. Are all union workers like this NO. This is where people get the idea that autoworkers slack. Is it right everyone gets lumped it it-it's not but it happens. This same could be said for any type of worker. We've all heard them-lazy restaurant workers, fastfood workers, etc. What bothers people is the amount of money they are being paid! I've worked in the design field (GM) and yet I got paid less (with a degree) than a typical line worker? Does that make any sense. Oh and when I got let go I don't get years notice or 90% of my pay-it's see-ya and that's it. It's easier to cut my line of work and send my job overseas than it is to have the union make concessions. Listen I hate to se ANYONE lose their job but if everyone would work TOGETHER (union, automakers) and both sides give a little we'd ALL (Michigan) be better off. Ok I'm done.

Everyone wants to harp on what we make. 95 percent of us earn what we make.
Think about the guy that retires from Ford with hearing loss. Think about the guy with carpal tunnel that is so bad he cant wipe his own butt. Think about the family of those guys that died in the Rouge explosion. Think about the guys with back problems from doing a repitious job for years. Think about the guy that I work with that lost two fingers working on a crane. Or the guy that lost his life when a cable broke on a crane and cut the top of his head off. I see this and wonder if we get paid enough. Consider this hazard pay.
It seems that most people that complain about our pay are people that either don't understand what we do or wish they could make what we make.
I not gonna disagree that there aren't some lazy people that work for the big three. That is in any company or business. That is like saying that you don't girls because the last one cheated on you. You cannot generalize the union as a whole. Please stop believing everything you hear. I wish you could do my job for one week and see if we aren't worth what we get paid.
BTW, I have a journeymans card which means that I completed three years of tech school. I am also in school right now to finish getting my degree.

I thought you were done? guess not !!!! You get mad at anyone that has a valid point, maybe we should all by non american products to put all the protectors including yourself out of work. Damn , you are not any better than anyone here or anywhere for that matter. You continue to protect the lazy worker but yet you bitched about them outside of your workplace. I would really hate to see what you would say if you were released and one of the "lazy ass autoworkers " took your job , bet you would be singing a different tune.

You know I stuck up for some of your points but I see that that was a mistake. Are you mental or something.? Of course most people have a problem with how much most union workers make when 90% of the rest of them make half and DO work as hard if not harder! What the hell is a "bitter-bitch face" -you know what-Your the reason people hate the american auto worker-you've proved that. I guess I did pick the wrong field-I had to design stuff and was told to make it "idiot proof" GM's words not mine so that if the workers climbed, kicked it it wouldn't hurt them-even though they weren't supposed to climb all over the machines! Your ignorant personal attacks show me and everyone how you really are. I'll give you this-at least you have some schooling-most workers don't & won't take advantage of the free schooling offered to them, then when the other shoe drops they have no skills to fall back on. bigslim you think we can keep it civil now? Hey I would of worked for the big three but they weren't exactly handing out apps as stated before.

Sorry if I offended anyone here. I guess I am just tired of hearing how the union is to blame for everything. We are the blame for health care cost, not the malpractice insurance that every doctor has to carry so they don't lose their asses. We are to blame for the junk that comes out of Detroit, not the executives that design and market the junk. We make too money and deserve any of it even though this was negotiated with management years ago. We should give back even though the leaders continue to sit in their "Golden Mushrooms" paying each other bonuses for selling what no one wants. It all gets a little too much to take.
I remember years ago the anchorman Bill Bonds said that the UAW worker was overpaid. This from a man that made one million dollars a year to sit and read from a telepromter. This is nothing new having people bash us. I guess I should have a little more control.
Before I leave I want all of you to think about union workers on a whole. Think about the car you drive, the building you work in, the nurses at the hospital that I hope you never have to use, the trukers that bring your food, supplies and other nessecities and remember that all these services are brought to you by union workers.

No problem. I am sorry that I took everything out on you. I am sure that you are a pretty cool guy. Most people here on this site are. Maybe one day I can buy a drink and we can talk. Lord knows that I can afford it.

Don't think anyone said that union workers are to blame for all the problems. If they did I 100% disagree. BTW-Buy American! That is all. Peace.
