Possibly the single-most iconic car to ever grace the small screen - and the big screen in the recent motion picture flop - the "General Lee" can be considered one of the coolest cars to be the star of any Hollywood production. Beloved by people world wide, the General's brilliant orange paint, Dixie flag and giant "01" numerals makes any '69 Charger stand out like a sore thumb. The problem we have with people making clones of the General Lee is not its gaudy appearance, but when they choose to make a General out of anything
other than a '69 Charger.
We at
Street Legal TV have tediously gathered a Top 10 list of our favorite worst General Lee clones. Enjoy!
#10: Honda Civic
Like some sort of revenge for all the Fast and the Furious
jokes we've been making, some knucklehead made a General out of this Civic.
#9 Jeep Wrangler
Some points were deducted because we all know Daisy Duke drove a Golden Eagle-edition Wrangler, making this General not too far off.
#8 Toyota Celica GT
I very begrudgingly drove a Celica during college. This front wheel drive 'Yota is coined as a "performance coupe" if you can imagine it.
#7 Chrysler Town & Country Sedan
The only thing we can think if is, "Hey, at least it's a Mopar." Plus, they've got the horn.
#6 Geo Tracker
We're these the worst cars for rolling over since Suzuki's Samurai? We don't think it would make it a good candidate for jumping Snake Creek.
#5 Peugeot hatchback
OK, we might be wrong on this one, but isn't this a Peugot? Hell, it doesn't matter. It's still hideous. FAIL.
#4 Fiat 500
We're not ignorant of the irony of including a Fiat on a list of worst Dodge Charger wannabe's. We're loving the beaming smile of the proud owner.
#3 Metermaid Mobile
Either this is the municipal vehicle for our favorite revenue collectors or some sort of Eastern European inner-city mobile. Either way is chocked full of FAIL.
#2 Mastercraft Ski Boat
Wow. You wouldn't believe the pictures of sloshy drunk bikini-clad girls we were forced to sift through to get a shot of this river rat party platform named aptly the "River Slut." No joke.
#1 Vespa T5 Scooter
Nearly neck-and-neck with the "River Slut" this Vespa T5 is everything that the original General Lee wasn't. And for that blatant degree of FAIL we had to give this Vespa the "Worst General Lee Clone" award. Congratulations, pal.
Honorable Mention:
'69 Dodge Charger on a 4x4 chassis
Almost worst than watching yet another '69 Charger being turned into a General Lee is watching one be bastardized into this. Somewhere, Uncle Jesse is crying just a little bit.
