This weekend saw the 2010 debut for a couple of racers. Rookie Mike Skeen, of Charlotte, NC, made his series return this weekend in the #81 Agee Racing Chevrolet Corvette, while Robert Kelley of Signal Hill, CA, was entered in the #3 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Skeen looks to make his fourth Trans-Am start in Utah. His career-best result is a second place finish at Road Atlanta last year.
Leading the championship standings is RJ Lopez, of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Lopez will once again pilot the #6 Lopesport Chevrolet Corvette. Looking for a top podium finish, Lopez finished second on both races this season. "Our first objective this weekend is to finish the event keeping and increasing the points lead," said Lopez. "I believe a win would be the best way to do that," he added.
Currently in second place is defending Trans-Am Series champion Tomy Drissi of Hollywood, CA, will drive the #5 RSR Jaguar XKR. While Drissi has yet to win more than one race in any Trans-Am season, he was looking to change that at Miller. Starting from the front row in both races this season, Tony Ave sits third in the rankings and is also looking for a top podium spot, with his #4 Chevrolet Corvette.
The 2.24-mile East Course at Miller welcomed the drivers to a highly technical, 14-turn challenge with a number of passing opportunities available. According to Lopez, the Utah track brings a unique aspect to the race. "Miller can be a pretty challenging course, as it is desert and there are very few points of reference around the track," he explained.
