The rare and unmistakable GTO Judge, is treasured as a pinnacle of Pontiac's late-60's DNA. Restored by Scott Tiemann of Supercar Specialities, the first example – an award-winning 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge - carries a 366 hp, 400-cid, Ram Air III V8, and is regarded as one of the best examples at any price. The second Judge, also a professionally-restored ’69 model, features the most desirable performance options for its production year. The car's bona fides are verified by copies of its build sheet and window sticker.
When the Judge first came on the muscle car scene in late 1968, it was a $332 option package, available on any GTO - coupe or convertible. The package's contents, though, would cost far more if taken individually. Standard was the 366-bhp version of the GTO's 400-cid V-8, coupled to a three-speed manual transmission and Hurst shifter. A blacked-out grille, read deck spoiler, F70-14 Polyglas tires and Judge graphics completed the identity transformation from Goat to Judge.
Parting, at the time, with another $390 would get you the Ram Air IV motor, complete with lumpy camshaft and under-rated at the published 370-hp spec. Other options included a close-ratio 4-speed manual, automatic transmission, Posi-trac rear axle, front disc brakes, power steering and hood mounted tachometer. That year, 6833 GTO Judges were built. The rarest of all is the 1969 Ram Air IV Judge convertible, of which only five were built.
Other highlights to be seen in San Diego include a fully-loaded 1965 GTO Convertible, a triple-black 1970 GTO Convertible and a rare 'Tiger Gold' 1965 Pontiac GTO Coupe - considered to be one of the finest surviving original 1965 GTOs in existence.
RM’s Classic Muscle & Modern Performance sale will also present some 26 Corvettes, seven Chevelles, six Mustangs, five Oldsmobile 442 Convertibles, and three Camaro Z/28s, along with an impressive assortment of virtually brand new modern performance vehicles, including a Ford GT.
The Classic Muscle & Modern Performance will be at the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, 500 Hotel Circle North in San Diego, CA. Previewing is available on Friday, June 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PST. The auction runs from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19.
