If I remember correctly, yes the dash has to come out, or at least back, and the heater box needs to be pulled out as well. It's not really that bad of a job. It's WAY easier than a fox mustang. I used to do a ton of evap cores in those and they could be done start to finish in under a couple hours. Definately nothing to be scared of. It's probably the easiest of all the "dash pull" heater jobs.
