Somehow, we aren't immediately panicked by the thought of sharing the roads with this particular 91-year-old grandmother and mother of four. Mrs. Rachel Veitch has owned and driven the 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente since the day her first husband (of three - having out-lived them all) drove the car home. Bought new, this little four-door Comet has totaled up more than 562,000 miles on its capable 289ci small block V8, which is original to the car!

Although she jokes that she needed to install cruise control after getting pinched for speeding at 92 mph, she beams when retelling her foray into the triple digits on a lone highway. Although no "shiny red, Super Stock Dodge," Mrs. Veitch embodies the spirit of the "Little Old Lady from Pasadena." The grandmother hosts yearly birthday parties for the Merc and saves every scrap of documentation each time its serviced. “She’s never lied to me," Mrs. Veitch boasts, "she’s never cheated on me, and I can always depend on her.”
