I don't know about older vehicles, but my GM truck I bought in 97 now has about 170K miles on it and I probably spent a total of $2000 in repairs since then, not counting regular maintenance and tires. I don't think any foreign truck would have done much better...

Another thing that would help the big three would be to get rid of the lazy asses that stand around all day to collect a paycheck. My uncle has worked for Ford for 25 years and says that 60% of all the people hired in the last 10 years are lazy asses. If you try to fire their lazy asses they cry to the union and get pushed to somewhere else, the unions protect but a little to much. I would gladly take a job at the big three and would actually work unlike some of the lazy ass check collecters that work there. We could drop the cost of the automobile if there were people that wanted to work unlike what seems to be the case now....

So are trying to say that lazy azzes only work for the auto companies? If I am not mistaken the last restraruant I went to had a bunch of lazy folks. The last I was in the mall there were a lot of lazy folks working there. Hell, the last time I went to market the people there were no balls of fire. We will not talk about this. There are lazy peole in every business. Maybe your uncle should mind his own business and do his job instead worring about about everyone else. Believe me, there are some people that bust their azzes at work in these plants.

He's not saying ALL workers in autoplants are lazy or that you are but there is a lot of them in the plants. I've been to the GM plant and SEEN them myself! And yes the union protects them. My uncle works at a Ford plant in skilled trades and is in what's called a gen pool. You have to go to the plant and sign in and sit around for 8 hours then sign out. You collect 100% pay and benefits. He says guys weren't signing in/out. How hard is that-all you have to do is go to work and sign in!!! Just like anything in life it's the few that give hard workers at the plants a bad rep. Not saying there's not some auto workers who bust their ass but bigslim don't you agree there is some lazy workers? I know there is some lazy workers at my work in a parts store and it drives me nuts! You just sound so defensive if anybody says ANYTHING negative about the plants. I agree w/ most of what you're saying, but attacking someone everytime thay disagree with you isn't going to change thier minds and it'll have the opposite effect.

I'm not saying everyone is lazy, its this kind of b/s that keeps the lazy people working. There are lazy people everywhere and they cost everyone money, no my uncle has busted his ass for 25+ years he has the right to talk about the lazy asses. I may not have a union job unlike others but if the plumbers union would take a person with 13+ year exp. I would be there, the reason they are not is because I am journeyman they wouldn't take me(to much pay) so they'll push thru the apprentices to keep their costs down<<< wow imagine that smart thinking. You need not make excuses for lazy asses, they just need to be removed and deserving indiviuals hired. We see 4 new guys a year and usually they only last a few weeks, good workers are hard to find. Sorry if I ruffeled your feathers bigslim but the truth is the truth

You have a right to your opinion. Your truth is not the truth though. It is very easy for most people on the outside to take a look and feel they know what is going on. They hear from a few individuals and they read what the press writes and feel they know about everything going on in the plants. I will not comment too much on this thread because I don't want to get into a pissing match with any of you guys. I know what is goingf on in these plants. I have been a UAW worker for over 20yrs. I know that we get no respect from most people. At this point I really don't what you guys think. I know it all is untrue anyway.
I will leave this as my last comment. I am a skilled tradesmen. I do jobs that most of you probably would not do. Would you go 50ft in the air and work on overcranes? Would you go out in 15 degree weather and hang steel or fix something that is broken on your building? Would go inside a stamping press and do maintainence work? How about working in a dirty tunnel or press pit? Yes, there are times that we get to have an extended break. But most of the time we are busting our azzes doing the things that most will not do.
Yeah, you ruffled my feathers. This is why I won't be answering this thread anymore. I started this thread as a positive thing to show how these companies help the communities. Instead there are some that wish to try to bring out the bad. That is what is wrong this country. We are so busy looking at the bad that we can't see the good. Think about these so-called lazy workers if you ever need blood (we have blood drives almost monthly). Think about these so-called lazy workers next time your kids need school supplies (we have donation drives for education). Think about these so-called lazy workers when you see people that are less fortunate (we have clothing and toy drives for these people). These are just a few of the things that we, the lazy people do to help our communities.

Nobody called you lazy Slim...just the few bad apples that spoil the bunch.
Its obvious that you work hard, we're not bashing you for that. Its the other people that don't work hard that we all have a problem with.
