Default For all you Mustang guys...

For all you 79-86 Mustang owners you can lighten your stang w/ aluminum front and rear bumper supports. They came on some 79-82 stangs, (usually turbos) but have been found on all types. There's also a guy making aluminum supports for 7986 and 87-93 cars. Figured it's a great way to get weight outta the car. Just my .02

Yours probably has aluminum front and rear. But nothings for sure. Seems like Ford did whatever it wanted to when it came time to decide what models to put them on.

Matt, just for shits and giggles, you might want to keep track of what youre parting. VINS, options, build dates, weird shit. As these cars grow older, the restorers will be dieing for that type of info. Do you have any of the light tan(beige) interior(89), Ive never seen another car with it.

As I go thru and help people with their projects(mainly GM), we find that when cars were built at different plants, some of the parts change(different vendor) and the installation of certain parts is done different(VIN rivits installed upside down). The other thing that happens, is sometimes just in time delivery, isn't. So, since they never want the line to stop(then they have to wake the bosses-lol), they substitute an equal part.

So far the turbo cars seem like they have both (front/rear). Also the 1979 Pace car had them too. I've called some of the top Mustang parts people (Dugan Racing, etc.) that deal w/ the 79-86 cars. I believe 83 was the last year but no one can confirm that %100. Actually no one I taked to can confirm exactly what they came on! I'll try to put a list together. I do know they go for $90-125 depending plus shipping.(Got mine for $90 shipped! ) I did find a few on Ebay, but haven't seen one in about a year. I believe the tan is a pretty rare interior color. I've only seen a few. I think when they were decided they were going to not use aluminum for the supports they just used up their last of thier supply of them and put them on whatever! Found someone who makes the aluminum supprots front/back for 79-93 stangs on another site. I think I'll get me a set of fronts!
