Kevs86GT I need rep points!
Confused Tranny help

I was out driving the mustang today and mentioned to my daughter that something wasn't feeling right with the response of the car and tranny. No sooner had I said it and gave it a "little" gas there was a clunking noise in the tranny and the car began to buck.
I pulled over and looked under the car and there was no fluid leak, I checked the clutch cable which is adjustable and while the car was off I put the shifter into each gear and tried to push the car back and forth to see if trans was holding(it was).
After starting the car and attempting to engage the clutch the clunking sound was evident, this happened in all gears as well as neutral.
What could this possibly be and what do I look for when I pull the tranny out.

Make sure it's not the rear end, the symptoms can be similar.

It's happening at the bellhousing. I get this clunking whenever I try to release the cluth pedal and this happens if I am in neutral or in gear.

If that is the case? then what are my options?
Is this a rebuild or just a replacement?
This is a T-5 tranny.

To me it sounds like the input shaft bearing retainer.

Will try to pull tranny soon, never did this before with a manual. Just wondering what to expect or look for.
Any suggestions or advice? Would be appreciated............

Thanks
Kevin
