Default BUILDING A 302 RANGER

im currently building a 302 for my 97 ranger. im going to do a backhalf on the truck once i get the engine and tranny in. im wondering if anyone has done this or know of any problems to look for while doing this swap?

pics of block, crank, heads, and intake to come. building the engine before i trae the truck apart. and those are stock rods remachined with ARP bolts, and TRW forged domed pistons.

Headers are a really tight fight. I had to grind the frame and dimple the headers to get them to fit with out hitting during acceleration.

i know advanced adapters sells direct fit headers for a 302 ranger conversion, im sure they will end up needing some modification. what kind of headers did you end up using?

I cant remember. I know they came from summit but as far as brand I think they were hedman.

im working on mine again but i pulled the 302 out and bored and stroked it
was fun to drive with the stock 302 cant wait till i put in the 347 i feel sorry for the guy behind me at the street lights for the will have to drive through a cloud of smoke muhahahah

I think you can fully tub a ranger without touching the stock rails. Im pretty sure S&W has a kit that just included the crossmembers for ladderbars and coilovers- Sounds like a pretty easy car to backhalf.

I know if you use 85GT shorty headers....they fit fine. My buddy did it like 12 years ago.
You could always go with a custom set if you wanted long tubes though.....Diamond Fabrication does some bad ass work and he's a sponsor of the site.
