Default LSA-Powered Chevelle Being Auctioned for Armed Forces Foundation

For the third year running, a new Super Chevy magazine project car - Project American Heroes - will be auctioned at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Orange County, June 26th. The combined work of Super Chevy, Route 66 Motorsports and the Armed Forces Foundation (AFF), along with contributions from more than thirty parts suppliers, proceeds from the restored and modified 1970 Chevelle will be used to support AFF programs across the country.

The 1970 Chevelle is powered by a GM Performance 550-hp Supercharged LSA crate engine, with a TCI 6-speed automatic transmission. The custom Boze billet aluminum wheels and modern, high performance suspension were provided by Detroit Speed Engineering. Additional donations were received from National Parts Depot, Edelbrock, Fesler Billet, Baer Brakes, Sony, Strange Engineering, Legendary Auto Interiors, Specialty Power Windows, Thermo Tec, PPG Paints, K&N Engineering, Painless Performance, AutoRad Radiators, Inland Empire Driveline, Soffseal and Old Air Products.

The first project car, a 1957 Chevy, raised $130,000 for the AFF. Last year, the 1969 Camaro project car went for $500,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach auction.

"I can't think of a more fantastic way to raise awareness of our mission and highlight the talents of everyone involved in this project," said Patricia Driscoll, President of the Armed Forces Foundation. "The dedication of all our partners really shines through in the finished product, and we are confident that this year's auction will be just as successful as the last."

The Barrett-Jackson Orange County event runs June 25-27, 2010, at The OC Fair and Event Center.
