1Quick88 I need rep points!
Default Transmission output shaft

well i finally ordered this kit to convert my car to a th350 it was recomended to me from someone on another board.. anyways..in the kit they supply a longer output shaft to make up for the distance of the shorter th350 compared to the 700r4 so i can still use my original drive shaft. my question is how do i take the shaft out of the th350 and put the new one in..i was told that it is not that hard but ive never taken apart a transmission..the only thing i have ever done was install a shift kit and that was no big deal just had to drop the pan..anyways any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks!!

i know 90% of you are probably gonna tell me to buy a ford but that aint happening!!

Buy a Ford....

Kidding..not sure. If it's longer to make up for the shorter tranny, then I'd imagine you could use the existing driveshaft.

Replacing the output shaft requires total disasembly of the transmission. If you have never done it before, I would recommend either having it done, or getting the Turbo 350 book that is available(Ramchargers??) and using a digital camera to record the steps. you will need a big clean area to disassemble. Keep everything in order as it comes out, then reverse the process when reassembling. You may need a few special tools also.
I assume the kit comes with a new tailshaft housing for mounting the torque arm to.

If youre going this far into the trans, now is the time to replace the clutches and steels, and the weak bushings with bearings.

I had a regular T350 converted to 4wd(short output, no extension housing) and the whole trans had to be disassembled, but I was beefing it up anyway. Ive done a couple of trans using the book route, you just have to go slow and stay organized. Its like anything else, you gotta do it alot to get proficient with it, and that just doesnt happen with transmissions alot.
