Hance Heads to Virginia with High Hopes

INWOOD, NY (May 20, 2010)—David Hance and his New York Motorsports team are heading to Virginia Motorsports Park for this weekend’s ADRL Speedtech U.S. Drags III with their repaired 1957 Chevrolet in tow. And they are on a mission.“We’ve got some unfinished business with the 10.5 stuff,” Hance stated.The classic Chevrolet, which was heavily damaged last August upon making hard contact with the left guardwall at National Trail Raceway in Ohio, will sport an entirely new engine combination in Virginia that is virtually untested: an Alan Johnson Hemi with twin 94-mm turbochargers out front. Testing was slated for this week before the drive south to VMP, but Mother Nature had the final say. Regardless, Hance hopes to get a quick feel for the car and sort the combination out to make a little noise in the always-tough ADRL Extreme 10.5 category. However, with a 2,650-pound car—roughly 300 to 400 pounds heavier than the competition—he knows he remains at a distinct disadvantage.“We’re really dedicated to getting a turbo to work out. Brad Personett has been doing well with it, but we need a couple more cars that run good and consistent with the blower and nitrous cars.” Ultimately, Hance’s plan is to make the move up to Pro Extreme with the turbo combo, but not until he’s confident of being competitive. “We’ve got to run a little better, you know ... just showing up for the sake of showing up isn’t something we want to do.”
